don’t do it. the best option is two part epoxy. second best is a light scuff sanding, an alcohol primer and an oil base floor paint. ultimate advice…. just leave it unless the paint job is temporary

The house is in need of some updating. We are set on tile, and like the natural looks of travertine, marble and granite. (not in combination though!) It is the "lowball" in a multi-million dollar neighborhood (valued $550,000) and we want to bring in some high class tastes and style designs to bring it into the million dollar range.
Our house currently has 16 year old ceramic tile (off white and tan with brown/tan grout) throughout the kitchen, entry and powder room. In the rest of the bathrooms we have vinyl and in the master we have carpet.
We have searched high and low for tile to match the existing, but just can’t find it anywhere.
If we wanted to go all out with travertine, would it look mismatched with the ceramic that we can’t afford to replace?
It’s hard to tell without photos. You don’t necessarily have to match the old tile, especially if they’re in different rooms. I wouldn’t want a seam between the 2 types of tiles going through the middle of a room…
If you want to increase your resale value, you should save up to replace ALL the tile. The old tile sounds like it needs to go.
Even vinyl in the bathrooms doesn’t exactly scream $550,000 house – no offense!
For my art exam next week I am making a zoetrope. Can I use marbles as the spinner. Does anybody know a good website for this with instructions on it. Thanks from Beki

I have a frameless shower door that I am installing in glass tile. The tile is approx. 3" x 6". I drilled into a loose tile easily, but when I screwed a hinge onto it it broke as soon as pressure was applied. I have installed many frameless units in ceramic tile and other tiles/stones. Will the glass tile be less likely to break on the wall when it has more support? Are there any differences between anchoring in glass and ceramic tile?
If that tile was on secure it probably would have been ok. Glass tile can be harder than some but not as hard as some other. The trick is not to get run off when applying pressure with drill and masonry bit on the glass. Any questions you can e mail me GL
I think I would bite the bullet and have it professionally cleaned. It would be a lot of work to get it back into a new condition. Then take good care of it as to the professionals recommendations.

Marble that has lost it’s shine can be livened up by a commercial marble cleaner and polish.
Tin oxide (putty powder) can be used to polished ethced or dulled surfaces. You rub this on with a damp cloth, folding and refolding to clean the damp areas.
Then use an electric polisher to buff the surface.
To remove the coffee cup stains:
Use a napkin, blotter, paper towel or facial tissue to make a poultice. Dampen with 20% peroxide (which is hair bleaching strength) and a few drops of ammonia.
Leave the poultice on the stain for a long period (approximately 24 hours or longer if needed). You can use plastic wrap to cover it to keep it damp.
You may need to repeat the process if the first poultice does not finish the job.
Hope this helps!
This question is confusing and I was wondering where to begin?
Its a question out a textbook.
The base of an aquarium with a given volume V is made of slate and the sides are made of glass. If slate costs five times as much(per unit area) as glass, find the dimensions of the aquarium that minimize the cost of materials.
So you want to minimize 5ab + 2(ac+bc) knowing that abc=V. Equivalently, you want to minimize 5/c + 2/b + 2/a . But since the product 5/c x 2/b x 2/a is 20/V, the minimum of the sum is attained when they are all equal, that is c=L/5, a=b = L/2 So L^3 =20 V and the rest follows.
There use to be some kits, that had a picture printed background and you use cord, different colored crushed glass and rock to fill in some areas of the picture. This would be a craft project and use to be able to find it in hobby stores. The hobby stores in my area do not carry these kits anymore. Some kits were of animals or birds as well. They too, used white glue to attach the cord, glass and crushed rock. The crushed glass and crushed rock came in different colors.
