    How can I polish out what appear to be splashes from wine or vinegar from a "sealed" marble table top?

    Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under marble tables | 6 Comments »

    The splash marks have left dull marks on an otherwise highly polished surface!

    The acetic acid has etched the marble. Polish it using Brasso (a mildly abrasive metal polish) or a neutral car paint restorer.

    I need help with a story problem in multivariate calculus 3?

    Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under slate glass | 1 Comment »

    Here’s the story problem: "The base of an aquarium with given volume V is made of slate and the sides are made of glass. If slate costs five times as much per unit area as glass, find the dimensions of the aquarium that minimize the cost of the materials."
    It sounds like a simple algebra equation. Here are the two equations I thought of:
    V(x,y,z)=xyz
    C(x,y,z)=5xy+2xz+2yz
    Since I need to maximize volume I first found the partial derivatives of volume:
    Vx(x,y,z)=yz
    Vy(x,y,z)=xz
    Vz(x,y,z)=xy
    I have no idea what to do now. Any hints?
    Any hint will do. I’ll be happy with 2 point answers if necessary.

    similar to the last problem,
    take the partial derivative of C with respect to x, y and z, set the partials to zero so you have 3 equations and 3 unknowns. Then solve

    Worlds Most Extreme/Expensive Bathrooms?

    Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under glass mosaic tile | 3 Comments »

    I am trying to find out the name of the show that was either on TLC or HGTV that showed these awesome bathrooms. There was one that was covered floor to ceiling with small glass mosaic tiles, and one that had glass walls over looking a mountain cliff. I can’t remember the show and can’t find it online anywhere!

    10 points to anyone who can find this show for me…or just the pics online somewhere!!

    THANK YOU!

    I have seen some of those shows and they are SOOOO impressive! LOL! Just thinking about doing bodily functions in there makes me shiver~ Not sure I could! LOL~ here is what I found for you!

    (also, if your remodeling your bath and going to incorporate these into your remodel job- let me just say I am jealous!) :)

    How much are the number marbles each one has?

    Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under marbles | 2 Comments »

    Abel, Benny and Charles have 249 marbles. Abel has 20 marbles more than Benny. Twice Charles numbers of marbles is 6 more than the sum of Abel and Benny’s marbles?

    Marbles of Benny—b:
    a + b + c = 249
    b = 249 – a – c

    Marbles of Abel—a
    a = 20 + 249 – a – c
    a = 269- a – c
    2a = 269 – c
    a = 269/2 – 1/2c

    Marbles of Benny—b:
    = 249 – (269/2 – 1/2c) – c
    = 498/2 – 269/2 + 1/2c – 2/2c
    = 229/2 – 1/2c

    Marbles of Charles—c:
    2c = 6 + 229/2 – 1/2c + 269/2 – 1/2c
    4c = 12 + 229 – c + 269 – c
    6c = 510
    c = 85

    Marbles of Benny:
    = 229/2 – 1/2(85)
    = 229/2 – 85/2
    = 144/2 or 72

    Marbles of Abel:
    = 269/2 – 1/2(85)
    = 269/2 – 85/2
    = 184/2 or 92

    Answer: marbles: Abel has 92, Benny has 72 & Charles has 85.
