  • Flip through of Second Place by Jody Fausett

    Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under marble tables | 1 Comment »

    A beautiful hardbound book showcasing Jody Fausett’s dark and mysterious, personal photography. “Like advertisements for a place you might not want to visit, Jody Fausett’s photographs sizzle with inchoate menace. Fragility and a whiff of violence collide in a body of work centered on Fausett’s kin and the vacant-eyed critters who attest to the family’s favorite avocation of taxidermy” -Felicia Feaster, Creative Loafing 9.5×12 inches (landscape bound). 120 color pages. forward by Bret Busch. Q&A with the artist by David Merten of GHava{Press}

    About the Author
    Atlanta based photographer Jody Fausett works within the overlap of commercial fashion photography and his own fine art visions. “From sewing tree shaped pillows to overturning marble tables in fancy night clubs, from romantic comedies to schlocky slasher films, Jody Fausett is a renaissance man…sort of. His arts and skills are a little more unpredictable then the common definition attributed to such a person. Where as one fitting the “classical” definition might teach you a thing or two about fine wines and seamlessly segue into the history of italian opera, Jody might educate you on the genius of Paul Verhoeven’s Showgirls after catching a possum with his bare hands. I have known Jody Fausett for almost a decade now and he is easily one the most interesting characters I have ever met. Unassuming at first glance, it is quickly apparent that there is something slightly askew to Jody in both appearance and personality. With a slightly messed up collar, ever changing facial hair… he is constantly pushing the limits of what is acceptable to the norm. This “other-ness” that is slightly above radar in real life becomes fully amplified in his photographs, yet never becomes deafening.” -David Merten, GHava{Press}

    How To Become a Plasterer or Stucco Mason

    Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under marble decorative | 1 Comment »

    Plastering—one of the oldest crafts in the building trades—remains popular due to the durability and relatively low cost of the material. Plasterers create decorative interior surfaces as well. One way that they do this is by pressing a brush or trowel firmly against a wet plaster surface and using a circular hand motion to create decorative swirls. Plasterers sometimes do more complex decorative and ornamental work that requires special skill and creativity. Stucco masons usually apply stucco—a mixture of Portland cement, lime, and sand—over cement, concrete, masonry or wire lath. Stucco may also be applied directly to a wire lath with a scratch coat, followed by a brown coat, and then a finish coat. Stucco masons may also embed marble or gravel chips into the finish coat to achieve a pebblelike, decorative finish.

    How To Become a Helper of Brickmasons, Blockmasons or Tile and Marble Settlers

    Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under marble tile | No Comments »

    Stonemasons often work from a set of drawings, in which each stone has been numbered for identification. Helpers may locate and carry these prenumbered stones to the masons. A derrick operator using a hoist may be needed to lift large stone pieces into place. Individuals who learn the trade on the job usually start as helpers, laborers, or mason tenders. These workers carry materials, move or assemble scaffolds, and mix mortar. When the opportunity arises, they learn from experienced craftworkers how to mix and spread mortar, lay brick and block, or set stone. They also may learn restoration skills such as cleaning, pointing, and repointing. Apprentices or helpers usually start at about 50 percent of the wage rate paid to experienced workers. Pay increases as apprentices gain experience and learn new skills.
