Most items are really harsh on marble, and remove the finish, but not the stain. The BEST way to have a beautiful table it to take the top to a marble/granite fabricator and have them re-finish the top. They will buff it and re-seal it. Gorgeous!

how do you cleam marble top tables?

You have to be really careful with marble because it stains and etches easily.

    Just use dish soap.

If it is stained you have to use a product designed for marble, which you would get from a company that sells marble counter tops.

Once you get it clean it is a good idea to seal it.

looks like a black mastic was on them inside all pcs have corners cut on a 45 degree

I assume it is a single piece rectangular or square marble table top. The marble slab is an inlaid on black mastic with the corners cut at.
45 degree.Be careful to remove the marble top from its stand or legs.
Measure and cut a similar size and shape base of half-inch thick plywood or solid base of your choice.Remove the existing marble top by working on both sides to disintegrate the base mastic. Scrape away all old mastic or glue. Applied new mastic or bonding sealant onto the new base letting it to become tacky. Place the marble top on the new base and adjust by knocking on the side carefully to make neatly aligned . Press on the marble top or placed some flat objects to
exert pressure for a good bonding. Add by gluing edging or trimming piece to cover the rim if necessary.
However,if your marble table is marble pieces inlaid on mastics or terrazzo ; it is harder to do likewise as damages is imminent by removing the marble pieces. It can still be done by this method with care . Use in-situ terrazzo pack as the binding of marble pieces.

How can I bring a marble table that has lost its shine, and has coffee cup "rings" on it, back to its shiny, b

Posted by admin on February 1st, 2010 and filed under marble tables | 6 Comments »

Marble that has lost it’s shine can be livened up by a commercial marble cleaner and polish.

Tin oxide (putty powder) can be used to polished ethced or dulled surfaces. You rub this on with a damp cloth, folding and refolding to clean the damp areas.

Then use an electric polisher to buff the surface.

To remove the coffee cup stains:

Use a napkin, blotter, paper towel or facial tissue to make a poultice. Dampen with 20% peroxide (which is hair bleaching strength) and a few drops of ammonia.

Leave the poultice on the stain for a long period (approximately 24 hours or longer if needed). You can use plastic wrap to cover it to keep it damp.

You may need to repeat the process if the first poultice does not finish the job.

    Hope this helps!

How can I polish out what appear to be splashes from wine or vinegar from a "sealed" marble table top?

The splash marks have left dull marks on an otherwise highly polished surface!

The acetic acid has etched the marble. Polish it using Brasso (a mildly abrasive metal polish) or a neutral car paint restorer.
