Elgin Marbles – From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elgin_Marbles )
The Elgin Marbles, known also as the Parthenon Marbles, are a collection of classical Greek marble sculptures, inscriptions and architectural members that originally were part of the Parthenon and other buildings on the Acropolis of Athens. Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, the British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire from 17991803, had obtained a controversial permission from the Ottoman authorities to remove pieces from the Acropolis. There is controversy as to whether the removed pieces were purchased from the ruling government of the time or not . From 1801 to 1812 Elgin’s agents removed about half of the surviving sculptures of the Parthenon, as well as architectural members and sculpture from the Propylaea and Erechtheum. The Marbles were transported by sea to Britain. In Britain, the acquisition of the collection was supported by some, while many critics compared Elgin’s actions to vandalism or looting. Following a public debate in Parliament and subsequent exoneration of Elgin’s actions, the marbles were purchased by the British Government in 1816 and placed on display in the British Museum, where they stand now on view in the purpose-built Duveen Gallery. The legality of the removal has been questioned and the debate continues as to whether the Marbles should remain in the British Museum or be returned to Athens.

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron-From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Gordon_Byron,_6th_Baron_Byron )
Cold is the heart, fair Greece, that looks on thee,
Nor feels as lovers oer the dust they loved;
Dull is the eye that will not weep to see
Thy walls defaced, thy mouldering shrines removed
By British hands, which it had best behovd
To guard those relics neer to be restored.
Curst be the hour when their isle they roved,
And once again thy hapless bosom gored,
And snatchd thy shrinking Gods to northern climes abhorrd!
Canto XV from ‘Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage’ by Lord Byron, 1812

You can only pick two marbles at a time, there are…
4 yellow marbles,
5 blue marbles,
4 red marbles, 7
2 green marbles.
I know the answer is suppose to be 2/35 but I don’t know how to get there…
I don’t know what the 7 means.
If you count it, then there are 22 marbles in all.
(4/22)(3/21) = (4*3)/(22*21) =
(2*1)/(11*7) = 2/77
If the 7 wasn’t supposed to be there, there are then 15 marbles.
(4/15)(3/14) = (4*3)/(15*14) =
(2*1)/(5*7) = 2/35

This is a marble machine I built during the course of one month (mid January – mid February 2010).
I included some slow motion clips and details of the mechanisms.
It has 3 elevating mechanisms:
-A large and small disc embedded on the same piece of wood.
-An antigravity Disc (Uses Neodymium magnets)
-A set of stairs
Everything is powered manually although I intended to motorize it (you can see a white plastic gear somewhere in there) but couldn’t find a motor strong enough to do it.
Notice that the stairs use a sinusoidal curve to thrust the marble up, I find this to be a more efficient (in terms of speed) way of making them instead of the traditional two by two.
Also notice the “switch” in the loading part of the antigravity disc, it prevents to marbles to go up at the same time.
I designed, cut, carved and glued everything by myself, I hope you like it

There are 20 marbles in a bag. 7 are red, 5 are blue, and 8 are white. If you draw two marbles from the bag, with replacement, whats the probability that you draw two marbles of the same color?
P(two red or two blue or two white) = (7/20)(6/19) + (5/20)(4/19) + (8/20)(7/19)
Here’s a long one. I make an implosion marble start to finish. Borosilicate Glass. I gotta thank Thomas Dolby for inspiring me to put the camera on a headset. Check my favorites for that video.
