  • What is the possibility of picking 2 yellow marbles at once?

Posted by admin on March 25th, 2010 and filed under marbles | 3 Comments »

You can only pick two marbles at a time, there are…
    4 yellow marbles,
    5 blue marbles,
    4 red marbles, 7
    2 green marbles.
I know the answer is suppose to be 2/35 but I don’t know how to get there…

    I don’t know what the 7 means.
If you count it, then there are 22 marbles in all.
    (4/22)(3/21) = (4*3)/(22*21) =
    (2*1)/(11*7) = 2/77
If the 7 wasn’t supposed to be there, there are then 15 marbles.
    (4/15)(3/14) = (4*3)/(15*14) =
    (2*1)/(5*7) = 2/35

Add them up and put 2 on top like a fraction. 2/4+5+4+2 or 2/15.
