I have always collected marbles and love glass of all kinds. The only glass classes we have locally that I know of are for fused glass. I want to learn how to make marbles and don’t have any idea where to start. I live in the Fairfax, Virginia area.

The old timers used to find a stream with a little waterf all. If there was a pocket at the bottom of the fall they would put a pretty stone that was aproxamately round in the pocket. after a few days of rotating, the resulting marble would be perfectly round
thanks

really old marbles–found in museums or antique shops are clay…settlers couldn’t afford to blow glass–not everyone has a handy and convenient waterfall to sit around and wait years on…but guess what-everyone has access to dirt…make a ball out of dirt–and heat it in an oven–ta da! clay marble. Old farm houses were made out of clay dug on the homesteader’s property too….it was handy-and right in the back yard.
you’re in Fairfax–Williamsburg is a pretty nifty resource…even the Smithsonian..call and ask..
